How does the bail bond process work in Kansas?

When someone is arrested, a judge sets a bail amount. If the defendant or their family can’t afford the full bail, they can contact a licensed bail bondsman. The bondsman typically charges 10% of the total bail as a non-refundable fee and posts the full bail with the court. This allows the defendant to be released from jail while awaiting trial. The person must appear in court, or the full bail becomes due.
